Stumbleupon is a one trick pony. Digg is a lot like that too. People visit the social links for the specific content, not to check out a new site in particular. My theory on this, is that you need to repeatedly come up on Reddit, Digg, Stumble etc so that people are visiting your site at different points regularly, in order to sell them that "you have good stuff". Take it from someone who does this for a living. Stumbleupon is a one trick pony. Digg is a lot like that too. People visit the social links for the specific content, not to check out a new site in particular.

My theory on this, is that you need to repeatedly come up on Reddit, Digg, Stumble etc so that people are visiting your site at different points regularly, in order to sell them that “you have good stuff”.

As far as I can tell, a very small percentage of Stumblers clicked any of the links to look at my other pages. But it's a start. If they're going to browse the web that way at least there's some good subversive reading for them.
