Carl Sagan. Bawling my eyes out, now. You try.

Yeah, sure. We all awoke from the horror in 1989. The Soviet menace quelled, peace and flying ponies reign. Right.

    You win, Mike. Tears for me too.

    Government is a poison masquerading as its own antidote.

    I forget, sometimes, why we struggle. This reminded me so strongly.

    well, tears for me, too. it was so nice of you to remind us of this on christmas week. i wonder if santa’s got you wrote down in his naughty list? we know the stat has got you wrote down on it’s naught list!

    It is so difficult to face. I think a lot of other people like me entered the early 90s with a lot of optimism. But the weapons haven’t been turned off, and although the players have changed, the evil game is still the same. We still live, everyone on this planet, under this horrible poison cloud. And the state and planet-shattering death weapons are only its most visible manifestations.

    Here’s to a better 2010.

    Great video, but I’m still partial to Sagan’s “Pale Blue Dot” speech:

    I’ve heard it a million times, but it’s never failed to move me.

    The advent of network culture is profoundly changing social dynamics. I think it’s time for a renewed optimism. Don’t give up hope, Mike; we’ll bury them.

    @Dr. Q: Yes, that one’s a winner as well.

    And, yes, things are changing. But the optimism I had once upon a day has rather mellowed.
