Somewhere, at this moment, the CEOs of Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and other defense war contractors are saying “thank you”, crying tears of joy.  The temptation of the U.S. to butt into yet another situation that has no plausible connection to “defense” as a human being with the slightest brain function would understand the term has struck again, this time pushing the U.N. to give a meaningless veneer of legitimacy by implying that “the world” approves.  Out of a claimed concern for civilian lives, “our” government is going to stretch the taxes they’re extracting from us to add more rain of fiery death.  So predictable they are.

No matter what any sycophantic media talking head or grease-palmed PR hack says, the following truths will be borne out:

-This is a foot in the door.  All claims to the contrary are undiluted horseshit, the second anything happens to a single U.S. jet there will be escalation.  Hell, probably even if nothing happens to one.

-Whatever system replaces that of Qadaffi’s regime, the political elite here and their business partners will expect to be able to treat it like their pet.

On the bright side, maybe if our meddling lasts long enough, Paul Krugman can write a column about all the jobs created replenishing our supply of missiles…

You have attracted plenty of attention with your DDOS attacks against the MPAA, IFPI, ACS:Law, Davenport Lyons, the US Copyright Office, and so on. Downing those sites is an open challenge to the Copyright Nazis, a glove slapped in the face of those who would restrict our beloved internets.

However,attacking websites doesn’t accomplish much in and of itself. Sure, in the course of the APACOR and ACS:Law attacks you managed to snatch and publicize some juicy internal data. In the ACS:Law case, that will hopefully lead to the firm’s well-deserved demise. Good on you! But the practice of attacking and downing or defacing websites yields only a cosmetic win. For the real lulz, you’ve gotta go after infrastructure, the machines and networks that make what these despicable organizations do possible.

So, the next time you’re priming your Low Orbit Ion Cannons, consider alternate targets: routers, DNS servers, email gateways, firewalls, proxy servers — basically, anything exposed to the public internets which directly affects the organization’s functioning. With a wee bit of probing and a wee bit of planning, you’ll be much more effective.

Justice for Bradley Manning petition

In a few weeks, depending on what the response trend is, this will be sent to the DoD and major media outlets covering the story, plus a paper copy to Brad Manning himself.

To: US Department of Defense; US Department of Justice

We, the Undersigned, call for justice for US Army PFC Bradley Manning, incarcerated without charge (as of 18 June 2010) at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait.

Media accounts state that Mr. Manning was arrested in late May for leaking the video of US Apache helicopter pilots killing innocent people and seriously wounding two children in Baghdad, including those who arrived to help the wounded, as well as potentially other material. The video was released by WikiLeaks under the name “Collateral Murder”.

If these allegations are untrue, we call upon the US Department of Defense to release Mr. Manning immediately.

If these allegations ARE true, we ALSO call upon the US Department of Defense to release Mr. Manning immediately.

Simultaneously, we express our support for Mr. Manning in any case, and our admiration for his courage if he is, in fact, the person who disclosed the video. Like in the cases of Daniel Ellsberg, W. Mark Felt, Frank Serpico and countless other whistleblowers before, government demands for secrecy must yield to public knowledge and justice when government crime and corruption are being kept hidden.

You see Donald Rumsfeld on the street. Aaron jumps Rumsfeld, with a gun, apparently bent on killing him. Bob and Charlie attempt to jump Aaron, with guns, and fail. Aaron’s shot kills Rumsfeld. Rumsfeld’s bodyguards shoot Aaron and Bob and Charlie. Aaron and Bob die; Charlie lives. The police arrest several of Rumsfeld’s bodyguards, charging them with various felonies, and Charlie for attempted murder.

Who will you defend? For whom will you speak out? With whom will you stand in solidarity? Aaron? Bob? Charlie? Don? The cops?

On the one hand, I am grateful to WikiLeaks for making this available. On the other, I am ashamed, disappointed and frightened that such direct evidence of evil is necessary for people to ascertain its presence and dominion.

“Bushmaster” will never be prosecuted by the system which put him in control. Maybe one or two of the CounterStrike-addled kids who actually did these murders will, and be released after a couple of years, having been “rehabilitated”. The whole goddamned thing will be swept under the rug and forgotten, much like the carpet-bombing and napalming of Vietnamese and Burmese families two generations ago. Much like the firebombing of Dresden. Much like Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Much like the massacres in the Philippines. Oh, I could go on…

And the machine will grind on. Threatening, extorting, imprisoning, torturing, maiming and murdering, until we put a stop to it. These creatures — I cannot call them “people” — live in your communities. They attend your churches. They dine in your restaurants. They attend PTA meetings at your school. They shop in your grocery store, and, maybe, they occasionally come into contact with your children or grandchildren at the playground. They are monsters, worthy of less than the bottom of a well, and yet they live among you.

And they are forming your culture. They are defining the world we live in. They are honored and revered for their “service” to rival global death machines. And the music swells, the crowd rises, hands go over hearts, and…

Yeah, sure. We all awoke from the horror in 1989. The Soviet menace quelled, peace and flying ponies reign. Right.
